He won the Mont Blanc ultra twice in 2006 and 2007 aged 58 then 59, ahead of much younger runners.

- I'm 5 foot 3 inches and I was 240 pounds. I had stage two hypertension, was on the verge of having diabetes and, when my back went out, I had to walk on a cane. And thats when my doctor told me if I didn't change my life, right then, in six months she'd be putting stints in my chest. I listened. I lost a lot of weight. I ran, I swam, I biked. Weight loss and fitness were revolutionary acts. They changed everything in my life. I weigh 143 pounds now and this year I'm going to run an ultra-marathon. I'm still 5 foot 3 inches.
